I-Mode vs WAP |
One point already goes to i-Mode as it is by far more popular than WAP in the world disregarding what service is better.
Anyway, graphics is a factor which has different capabilities to each other. i-Mode can only except gif images on its browser but WAP can except both gif and jpeg depending if the mobile displays more than just black and white colours.
Problem with WAP that you have to dial up each time to get to the Internet. With i-Mode it is constantly connected when you turn on and stops when you turn off your mobile.
From a developing point of view, i-Mode is easier and more compatible to develop with than WAP as WAP needs a specific gateway and i-Mode doesn't need a specific one you can develop an i-Mode site in the standard web language (html) and install a transcoder software to take tags/attributes it does not accept.
So overall i-Mode has a lot more significant advantages over WAP but i-Mode is only available in Japan, WAP is more widely spread but not used as much as i-Mode is this because Japan is a technology dependent society? Who knows. |
