cHTML |
To develop i-Mode compatible web applications you must know a web markup language called iHTML which extends cHTML defines to Compact HTML for Small Information Appliances. This specification was written by a small Tokyo company called Access and they developed the micro browser i-Mode uses to connect to the Internet and it only accepts GIF images.
The following markup languages you can to develop i-Mode applications with:
- Straight HTML, behind an i-mode filter
- Straight HTML, customized for small screens and avoiding any of the elements excluded in cHTML
- cHTML. In essence, this is almost identical to the straight HTML solution
- iHTML; that is, cHTML, with i-mode-specific extensions included
So there are quite a few option. You can develop a site in HTML and then use a i-Mode filter such as WebSphere Transcoding Publisher which will take out the tags or attributes which i-Mode does not except. Either that or you can develop a site in cHTML if you know which tags/attributes you don't need and your site is only meant for i-Mode.
cHTML is used due to its:
- small displays (mobile typical 128 x 128 compare to a PC 1024 x 768 screen resolution)
- black and white
- CPU power, battery life
- limited memory
